I spent 30 years denying myself and being the servant as I was taught to do. It did not serve me well. It left me broken, abandoned, and abused. Now that I have learned that being the servant, as I was taught to be, is not the path for me it is my goal to be an example not a servant. A servant does not have choice, only duty. An example has no duty but is full of choice. I choose what kind of person I want to be. I choose how I want to help others. I choose when I help others. Being an example puts my power where it belongs, back in my own hands.
I believe we are all given great power, and just as Uncle Ben said, “with great power comes great responsibility” (Spiderman). However, without the choice of how to use that power then I am not using my power, my power is using me. And when I am being used, I no longer feel like a person. I no longer feel free. I feel like property, like a slave.
I was not born to be a slave. I was not born to be a servant. I know this because I was given a choice. And choice equals freedom. Noone on this Earth was born to be a slave to anything. Everyone was born with choice. The majority of us were simply brought up in a world that did not make us aware of this reality and it led to long, hard, life lessons.
As I continue my journey called Life, I will continue to adjust and evolve the type of example I will be to others. But, my goal is to be an example that helps others believe in themselves, believe in their own power, and that they can be who and what they dream of being. Because we all have the power of Love inside us. And Love conquers all.
